[RC] Cherry Briscoe and Doc - Judie Ricci

I was remembering the first time I met Cherry and Doc.  I was a first time,  volunteer at the Sunland ride in 93 or 94,  Heidi Paul had posted an add at the feed stores for anyone wanting to "learn" about endurance to call her ,  so I did and went to her P&R class the weekend before the Sunland ride.   Heidi  had  ""advised " us all after learning how to take the heart rates , and respiration, that  some riders could be "  a  little aggressive "  if we took too long,  so, If we were uncomfortable  with a rider just step back and let a more experienced person take over,   well  twords the end of the day the third vet check ( a very long day for a new bie )  a group of riders come in ,  and walking quickly and yelling  "  Hurry up ! hurry up!  I don't want to be on this damn mountain in the dark!!" is a  woman in a loud Black and bright Yellow  striped ride out fit,  I stepped waaay back ,  I think Jimmy Bumgardner took Docs parameters, anyway that was my first meeting with Chery, she was the drag rider for the ride and there is a killer mountain at the end,  which I found out the following year when did the ride.    I did ride along side Doc a few times after that  over the years I was in So. Ca.  he was always very nice, I remember being at water tanks and Lori saying "drink Doc or yur not going anywhere" and he would stick his head in and drink,  and yes, you could ride up and let your horse drink with him.  Pete and I paced with him and Lori at the Silver State no frills one year for miles,  he was something all right ,  And the black and yellow scary lady is a very sweet person,  as is the whole family.   Pete and I are proud to help sponsor a piece of the Tevis trail in Docs memory, I just don't think one mile is enough,  I miss my PS friends , and their horses, it is always so sad to lose a good horse.   Judie and Pete  now in N.Va.
