[RC] Nationals and treatment - Enduroride

In reply to the person who asked if it was normal for a National Championship
Ride to have many horses needing treatment? I was at the last 3 national
championship rides and even though the completion rates were not very good, not
many horses got into serious trouble. I think last year 2 were given fluids,
the year before I don't think any were and in 2001, I believe we had 2 horses
who were given fluids out of over 40 starters. I heard this year it was tough
and the weather was hot. You would really need to get the treatment vets
opinion on it but I would guess they were just being very cautious and did not
take any chances. 100 mile rides are not easily completed, with only about a
50% completion rate across the US, that is one reason we give a point and 1/2
per mile. Connie Caudill
