Yes, English style dismount is safer. But I have still landed on my back in front of everyone at the finish line after a fast Desert 50 when my knees buckled on hitting the ground (tall horse, short stirrups). Now I kick both feet out, then TURN SIDEWAYS and slide down while still maintaining contact with my hip on the side of the horse :-}
