Does anyone have either proof or an opinion as to whether an Australian saddle helps keep a rider on a spooky horse better than a regular English saddle? I've never ridden nor even sat on an Australian saddle. They look interesting.

My Aussie was by far the most secure saddle I've ever owned (counting several English styles, two Stonewalls, and one DeSoto). I came off Lakota in every other saddle I rode him in over a 4-yr period but I never came out of that Aussie. That very, very deep seat and those poleys made it easy to lock myself in and keep my seat no matter what he did, even the famous Exit Stage Left maneuver.

I had no trouble whatsoever posting Lakota's trot in that Aussie, but then Lakota had a very flat, smooth, comfortable trot. I could also stand the trot and canter on him with no trouble. I don't know whether it would be as comfortable on a horse with big, bouncy gaits but I'd say it's definitely worth a try!!
