RE: [RC] [RC] Winter Hair - terry banister

I will vouch for the extended daylight system. A neighbor I was riding with had a horse with a short, slick coat in midwinter and I asked if she shaved her horse (since she was not an endurance rider). She explained that the shortening of daylight hours is what triggers the winter coat to start growing, so for years, starting at the end of summer, she just leaves her barn lights on until 9 p.m. and her horse never grows a winter coat. Too easy. Too bad for those of us who don't have that kind of setup.
