[RC] Window of optimum feeding time - Winter, Randy or Cheryl

The Massage therapist who works on our horses, also works on some of the top
tri athletes in the world here in Boulder. She has her masters in sports
medicine and has been a valuable resource for me to talk to when she comes
out. During one of our conversations she was saying that for human athletes
there is an optimum window of replenishing both carbohydrates and protein
after a hard work out, and that is within the first 30 to 60 minutes. The
body is ready and needing those sources of fuel to replenish what it has
just burned up. She said with her human athletes they will take in a light
snack/meal to help jump start the body on it's way to the repair work that
needs to be done.
I have now gotten into the habit of taking along a protein/grain food, in a
small amount that I feed to the horses when I get back to the trailer from a
hard conditioning ride. They always have hay in the manager of the trailer,
so then they get to munch on that on the way home. This seems to be
working for them.
