[RC] re: [RC] Winter Hair - DRG1

My experience with this (North-Central AZ), Is that some horses start getting a winter coat in August here (even tho its still 105 degrees out!)

I think this is so uncomfortable for them (with all the itchy dirt, sweat grime, salt, ick!), 1 guy I have is so hairy you’d think he lived in Montana!

I full body clip him by the 2-3rd week of Sept. Then I have to do this 3x before March (when it starts getting into the 90s by then). I do blanket him from Oct thru March. In fact, I use lightweight blankets for all the horses (6) during this time, as it keeps them cleaner.

One of my very best birthday presents was a set of “Sheep Shears”, very expensive huge electric clippers, but boy, do they work when you have to do a full body clip! <VBG> Do I sound like a hick!?! LOL!

I don’t do lights as the rural area I live in (& me) likes to have the barn lights off at night to see the stars. Most “barns” here are Mare motels, not enclosed barns, so the whole neighborhood would see the lights.
