[RC] elevator rides - my encouragement to RM's - sandy . l . holder

As this is only my third season doing AERC rides and 1 1/2 doing "endurance", I was keenly looking forward to trying to move up a distance (from 50's to a 75) and was really looking forward to the East Bay Ride (Oakland Hills) this past weekend.  Unfortunately an untimely surgery pushed my ambitions from riding to crewing for a few of my friends.  However, I must say that if I had been able to ride, it would have been 'perfect for me' to try the longer distance at this ride.  My horse has been doing quite well at 50's but had been off slightly prior to a ride a month ago (I 'stole' Dick Carter's horse and rode him instead - LOL - 'stole' is what Dick told everyone I did while out on his best horse and wearing his helmet).  Anyway, my boy and I had done this ride as 25's the past two years and the last couple of 50's (this year) we've done he looked very well at the finish so I was mentally prepared for 'if he's fit after 50 then we'll try the 75'.  I did offer to let some friends that I trust ride him but they were already committed to volunteering.  Unfortunately I was the weak link this time.

At this point since I don't know of any more elevator rides in our area, we'll likely just try a two day 50 to see how he does.  A slightly different strategy but since our goal is to try a 100 next year, I'd like to continue as best I can toward that goal.  Wish there were more elevator rides for us relative 'newbies' to try our hand at the longer distances while being able to make the decision after our horse has finished the originally intended miles.

Just my thoughts.
