[RC] Horses getting too full - Aaron Turnage

Oh God, now do I have to worry my horse is stuffed TOO
FULL with fluids,
beet pulp and grass hay pre-ride???

** I too have wondered about this. My horse is a
glutton, total pig. He is in a Nevada "pasture" (read
No Grass, only sagebrush) with about 5 other horses so
the only time he receives unlimited free-fed hay is
the night prior to a ride. He is certainly NOT
underfed at home, in fact he's a little heavy, but
just does not have unlimited access to forage. At a
ride, he has been known to eat 1/3 to 1/2 of a BALE of
hay the night prior to a ride. He just eats non-stop
all night. I don't think he even sleeps. I've often
wondered if I should limit his intake prior to a ride
and if so, how much?

Suggestions?
