steph, thanks for the push in the right direction, on topic.

i agree with becky about these colic episodes. these horses just arent getting enough to drink. i notice the same thing about me. i work outside just about all the time. since the cooler days have started, i am not drinking nearly as much fluids as i was a couple of weeks back when it was a lot hotter. but i probably should be. same with the horses. cooler weather effectively masks the level of exertion, and they dont drink as much, may not eat as much either.

I also think that if it is raining (not the case at Stephs' ride, I imagine!), they get kinda 'depressed' and don't eat or drink as well the night before, and so start a little behind the curve.
I believe this is what happened at the Manitoba PAC a few years ago; thunderstorm with rain and cold the night before the ride; far more than anticipated metabolic problems the next day.
