[RC] hauling horses long distances - Alice Yovich

When I moved from KY to Tx, I hung a bucket with water in the stock trailer. I hauled all night, just my mare. It was about a 14-16 hour drive. I stopped occasionally b/c I was alone. My mare was loose in the trailer. I don't believe that all the water sloshed out, though I'm sure some did, but she drank about one whole bucket while I drove. She usually won't drink if I just offer it at stops though, unless I can untie her and she can move around a little, either in the trailer or outside. But, i can feed her senior with lots of water and she will suck that down to get her liquids.

I've got a question for those folks who haul long distances without off loading the horses. In terms of drinking in the trailer. Are you stopping and offering water from a bucket? Leaving water in front of them at all times?
