holy cow you leave the strings on, no way.  strings or net everything comes off 
before a horse 'even the smartest one, gets near it.  we don't use a ring, 
there's very little they don't eat and it goes to mulching and improving the 
pasture.  geez that thought scares me to death.  i've only seen a cow with a 
digested string... dead.  but i knew someone that just missed one string and 
ended up going into impaction surgery.  didn't know what it was til they found 
it.  at what $40 or so for a round bale that lasts 2 horses a couple months 
sure sounds like a cheap way of feeding even if they tear it up and use it for 
bedding etc.  thinking of the several thousands for impaction surgery or worse 
yet a dead horse.
