[RC] ans. to speaking of hoof issues - Paul Bendzunas

Ideally the hoof should be a straight line from the coronet te to the bottom of the hoof, structurally a straight line is stronger than a curve. The reason for the dressing is by rasping you strip the outer seal and the dressing re-seals the outer wall.I usually don't use dressing and let the hoof seal itself unless it is real dry then it is best to first soak the hoof and apply dressing.
I don't mean this as a put down but It sometimes surprises me how much people care for there horses and don't take the time to learn some basics about their feet. As the saying goes no hoof no horse.
I'm real new at this horse thing but I'm fortunate to have a mentor that is litter ly an old cowboy (86 now tough me to shoe when he was 78) Early in our relationship he said "if you're gonna have horses then you damed well ot-ta learn how to take care of their feet"
So here's a resource for all you on line junkies www.horseshoes.com.
