[RC] Training for 50's - PBRINKWORTH

For the past 2 years I have been working my horse on the LSD aspect of
training.
We have done CTR's and LD's and he has been doing very well. Most of the time
the vets have told me I had a lot of horse left at the completion of these
rides.

This year I want to turn it up a notch and start doing 50's. What I'd like to
know is what type of training schedule do you put your horse through to prepare
for 50's. How many miles a week do you train and at what distance and pace. I
have bought the latest gadgets (HR monitor and Timex Speed and Distance
watch)and would like to know what parameters I should use regarding heart rate.

He is also a very easy keeper. He's turned out 24/7 with free choice hay in the
winter and pasture in the summmer and even though he is ridden alot he could
lose a few pounds.

I am looking forward to the upcoming season and would appreciate any advice you
could give.

Thanks in advance
