Re: [RC] Gold Country Awards - TypeF \(Jackie Floyd\)

That's an excellent idea on the marker! I'm gonna go right out right now and
gussy up my bucket. I'll have the only one like it! :)

And I do have one of those little blue Wadder buckets that I carry in my
saddle bag and use it all the time (mostly because I lost my spunge which I
have now replaced). It makes a nice alternative for a scoop, although you
can't get quite as much in it. But the bigger collapsible bucket is going in
my crew bag. Having had to go down to the streams to get water at the XP
rides, I found it difficult to get my beet pulp ready by taking the little
pan I had for it down to the stream and then manage to get back to my lunch
spot without sloshing all the water out. Now I'll be able to get back with
all the water I went down there for!

:) Jackie

Jackie,
When I have gotten something without the name of the ride (except
syringes...that doesn't work), I'll use a permanent marker and write the
name and date of the ride and the distance, etc. :)
I think a completion award is a completion award and will award
"consolation" awards (such as the "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no
luck at all" award), especially to juniors or newbies to let them know we
know it sucks and we want them to try again. But even if I don't do that,
some commiseration, encouragement and education go a long way, too. I put
a
LOT of thought, time and energy into my awards, big AND small and it
bothers
me when people can't bother to stay to pick up their award. I try not to
take it personally but it galls me to give it early because they HAVE to
leave (though their horse just did a tough 5 hour 50 in heat and humidity
and face a several hour drive home), especially when it's a nice award and
I
was looking forward to letting everyone see it...kind of like Christmas
morning for me...I know. I'm a selfish ride manager!!
I tried a collapsible water bucket once and hated it. Please tell us if
you
really use it and like it after awhile. I have thought of that as an
award
before but think it's something some people will love and some will hate.
:)
