Re: [RC] Drinking out of a Water tank - Janet . Tipton

I couldn't agree more with these statements. This past weekend I was
actually at a mustang show and believe it or not many were horrified that I
was allowing my mustang to drink out of water puddles. They had some huge
rain storms that last few days and there was standing water everywhere. In
between classes we would go for walks and she would find the puddles and
drink from them. I have spent a lot of time encouraging her to drink this
year whenever she has the chance that I was not about to tell her no. The
water was fine (no oil slicks or anything like that) and she kept going
back to certain puddles so she obviously liked the water.

When people would say, "Why are you letting her drink THAT water," I would
simply say at least she is drinking water and staying hydrated.

I was so very proud of her. BTW we got high point novice and over-all high
point reserve.

OK, my nickel's worth. I work hard at encouraging my horses to drink--any
time, any place. To tell them "no" after working to teach them otherwise
is counterproductive. I can't imagine disillusioning my horse after
telling him time and time again what a good boy he is for drinking.

We KNOW that dehydration is our enemy, every ride. The risk of disease
only hits once in awhile. I vote for drinking from whatever source makes
them inclined to do so.
