[RC] horse vs. human, and other thoughts - smuncy

On horse vs human in race (as emled person looking for info.) have to consider terrain, distance -   on a flat,( or otherwise ),  'open' piece of road, yes, horse will win easily, even at  a good working trot,  and distance would not, I believe, be a factor.  However, on rocky terrain, uneven trail - the human may well have the advantage, have talked to runner friends, I had in the past, and over certain terrain, she would have won the 'race'. As I would have to have slowed the horse and 'picked the way', and the runner could navigate more easily, at speed. Of course, when you have to figure, we add mandatory "holds" for horses, the humans, just stop as long as they want - and generally,a short time, on the ultra - marathons; else they get too 'stiff' to continue. Over mountainous terain, both road and mountain trails, we have had runners into aid stations for the OD Run as early as 5pm,( if my memory serves me right??) They start at 4 or so am, and that particulair aid station is 82 miles into the run, so do the math, A decently conditioned horse would probably do faster, as many miles are on dirt roads, but several are on usual rocky OD trails. So may equal out? My money would be on A good horse, as long as "hold" time not considered. But may be closer than think.
IMHO - best riding tights  =  Carosels, either padded or not, hot or cold weather, if cold put sweats over, and pull socks over legs to keep 'sweats' in place.
The management of OD is aware there were a "few" flaws and will work hard to correct before next year.Constructive criticism, comments - with suggestions - can be sent to me and I wil forward, bring to next meeting.  * Yes, the first jugs placed - did evidently float away, good thing bottom was still good for crossing, and jugs were replaced by night. Jim, sorry, you missed turn... up Little Crease, but... was marked,.. had to be,.. I found it, and I only ride that trail when have paid money to do so.  :-)
The main thing needed to do endurance - a good horse, Time - to condition, and go to rides, and Money.
