I thought for sure someone else would have noticed this
also, especially in the endurance community. I know I wasn?t
seeing things as my husband and friend who know nothing about
lameness saw it too.

When Smarty started walking after the race during the post-
race interview with the jockey, he was very stiff and appeared
to be off in one of the front legs. This was at a walk. To make
sure I wasn?t seeing things, we kept the channel on and watched
the slow motion recap. Just after Smarty made the last turn for
the home stretch, he was starting to pull away again. But he
ever so slightly stumbled. I think it was with his left front.
Immediately afterwards his stride was not nearly as long as it
was before. Watching it the first time, I thought the extra 1/8
of a mile was too much with an over zealous jockey. But, I
really think that slight stumble caused him to be lame during
the home stretch.

Did anyone else see this? I could be imagining things, but
my novice husband and non-horsey friend saw it too. What do you
think?

We are talking about all the tools we can use to keep our horses safe and
alive at the rides. Training/conditioning is one of the best tools
available. It makes us better horseman and women, it benefits our horses
and could quite possibly be the key to preventing most crashes.
