[RC] 4 year old, hard road - Karen Sullivan

new topic, question.  I am trying to build up a 4 year old.  I am not concerned at this point with cardiovascular development, more legging her up and manners.

She was in wild until 6 mos....in BLM corrals a year, then in 10 acre pasture basically until last Jan...when she turned 4.

6 weeks pro. trainer with too much done too fast, then we got her.  ....is coming 3 months with us with 3-5 times a week short rides or ponying; no more than 30 miles a week mostly walking walking.  But this mare covers ground and likes to go...so some trotting and a bit of canter...starting hills...but lots of walking.

Here is dilemma......all our trails and roads are now very, very hard.  There is a nice dirt road to pony on, but now very hard.  This first year, will it be bad to do a bit of slow jogging on a hard road...or should we just walk?  Mare has very good bone, straight legs, excellent huge feet.  Don't want to rush anything but also want progressing legging up program.

Nothing I have done so far has caused any heat, or stocking up or soreness in her legs or anywhere else.

Any advice appreciated!
Karen
