[RC] White Line Disease - kstandefer

Whiteline disease may or may not be caused by a fungus. However, in a healthy
hoof with a tight whiteline and correctly balanced so that that the whole hoof
is bearing weight equally, there will not be the opportunity for whiteline
disease to start.

Whiteline that I see most is caused by mechanical issues.....the toe being too
long which imbalanced the hoof all the way around, causes flaring which is an
indication that the whiteline is stressed and stretched. If the issue is not
solved, then the laminae begin to die which causes the hollowness between the
hoof wall and the sole (or coffin bone if it goes that far up). This also
gives the opportunity for disease to start in this vulnerable and dark area.

Curing the problem absolutely must include getting the hoof correctly balanced
as well as identifying whether or not it is a mechanical or fungus caused
whiteline problem. Clorox and Iodine may help with the fungus, but they will
both also kill healthy laminae tissue (whiteline tissue). There is a product
called Clean Trax that has worked really well for many people when there is a
fungus present. It seems to be less invasive to live tissue.

men would ride sidesaddle.
