[RC] Probiotics/Plain Yogurt Question - Ibiteraaarr

Just out of curiosity...

I remember reading that some riders mix their electrolytes with plain yogurt to administer to their horses. As I understand it, yogurt is typically Lactobacillus bulgaricus added to milk to ferment it. Since many probiotics seem to utilize different bacteria from the Lactobacillus genus, does that serve in any way the same purpose as would the commercial preperations of equine daily probiotics? Would it be helpful at all or does plain yogurt lack enough of the bacterial variation that the prepped probiotics contain to even make a difference?
