Re: [RC] horse corrals - Typef

I second that ... I thought they were the best panels I've ever seen. If I
hadn't just invested in three HiTies, I might be spring for a set. I didn't
like any of the panels on the market or the idea of making my own so went
with HiTies. These look like the best thing since "sliced bread" as they say
...

At the recent AERC convention trade show, my husband and I saw the most
wonderful-looking corral panels I have ever seen. They were beautifully
welded aluminum panels, 6' long by 5' high. The brochure says 8 of them
make a 15' diameter corral, enough for one horse. For us, using the wall
of
our 20' gooseneck stock trailer as one side, we would need the same number
of panels to create a 12' wide by 24' long corral for two horses. They
weigh 30# per panel. The cost is $1,280 per set of 8. A side-mount panel
racking bracket cost $275 each (two required). I was so excited about
these, as our panels are 12' galvanized steel panels and take two of us to
lift and move. We are cattlemen and horsemen, and my husband's greatest
concern on rides is the escape of horses. I think there is no way a horse
could escape from these panels. The company is Night Wind Designs in
Prineville, OR. Contact Jim Rodosevich rodo@xxxxxxxxxxx or
rodo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or 541-447-3169. "Panels and brackets can be
shipped anywhere in the US at cost of shipping and handling, approx. $200
to
ship 700 miles via common carrier" (quoted from their brochure.)
"Delivery
usually within 4-6 weeks of order placement." I have no affiliation with
this company, nor do I know the owners. This man does his own
welding......it's a husband and wife company. We recognized quality and
durability when we saw it. I wanted to order a set immediately, but
husband
said let's wait and see if we get back to endurance competition. We've
not
competed for nearly 3 years, due to lack of appropriate horse power.

Subject: [RC] horse corrals

my first ride is not for a couple of months yet, but i
am curious as to what to do with my horse once i get
there. before, when i have camped at parks with him,
i have tied a line from the trailer to a tree,
attaching his lead to this line so that he can move
back and forth at will. however, now i know that i am
not supposed to do that. i'm uncomfortable just tying
him to the trailer but i do not have access to a
portable corral. does anyone have any ideas? how much
does a portable corral actually cost?

thanks,
ashlee

Arabians were bred for years primarily as a war horse and those
requirements are similar to what we do today with endurance riding.

The very essence of our sport is doing the trail as quickly as
practicable,
while keeping one's horse fit to continue. Taking the clock out of the
equation makes it another sport altogether. The challenge is how to keep
the sport what it is while honing our skills (both as riders and as those
in control roles) in detecting where "the edge" is for each horse so that
we don't cross it.
