My unspotted SSH Hank has this tremendous trot you are all talking about.  
Of course he also paces, racks, single-foots, does a true Walking Horse
Walk (not very often), and canters - all within a few strides oftentimes.
To see him going down the trail trotting you'd be hard pressed to realize
he's gaited. When I ride with someone who doesn't know him, I wait for
the "Umm, what, exactly, is your horse????" - usually happens when they
are behind and watching his legs go in and out of all these gaits  :)
