Re: [RC] [RC] Hair loss - Laurie Durgin

Probably , I thought that too, but mine loose it in winter too. I found that MTG by Shapley has kept their hair on(at least 90 percent till this winter!!!!! now Rascal has two small bald spots, but it beats the 6" total losss he had for two years thru all kind of attempts ot stop it. Vet thought it was fly allergy(4 horses would get it. ) Bathing helps(or at least get worse if not bathed at least every 3 weeks > Thought I had it pinned down to allergy or bugs, but this winter I changed my mind, I knew rain made it worse, although if not bathed in summer it happened too. Year round. But it has been a cold rainy winter and no bugs (colder than ususal, only saw bugs twice.). I think it may actually be partially fungal and the MTG kills it? We have 3 acre plus paddock, lots of mud. Funny didn't have it when I first owned them and babied them by locking them in stalls when it rained. hhhmmm food for thought. I do try to keep them covered in waterproof blankets in rain. But the moisture abounds here.-
p.S. His tail used to be thin or have baldy patches, but when I use the MTG it stopped "thinnning" has thicker tail than he used to. It's only 15.$ a bottle worked better than all the stuff the vet gave me. If I were you I'd try covering him(in case it is allergy) and maybe other remedies too.
Might try that "spot on" stuff for horses,if it is bug allergy I know someone whose mustang loses hair to sweet itch and it stopped that. at least for her.
I am in the process of making stretchies for my horses to see if that makes a difference. Good luck!!! Laurie and Rascal (sho has most of his mane this year)Drat this rain and mud

Sweet Itch. Basically it is a fly allergy, to midges.

I've got one with it. Poor thing is miserable in
summer. I plan on getting her one of those blankets
on that link this year (she's still growing so I
didn't get one last year). Having her in a sleezy
hood and fly leg wraps helps a *lot* as her worst
areas are her neck & legs. I also do the zimectrin
(internal & external), garlic, and lots of Swat.
