RE: [RC] [Guest] Training Centers/Pres - Bob Morris

But John:

First we must have a uniform acceptance of the existing
rules before we can think about any deviation from them.

With as simple a set of rules as are existent in endurance,
we find a great lack of adherence to the way they were
written.

When endurance riders universally accept the current rules,
then we might consider modifications for alternate
modalities of competition.

Heck, they're co-existing right now! And you've got the
right idea,
Barbara. They can co-exist just as surely as riders
striving for placing
and riders striving to complete mileage can co-exist--the
latter two every
weekend at virtually every AERC event. We need not all
think alike nor have
the same goals to get along and enjoy the sport.

There may be a need for some distinctions in Rules and Regs
for the two
evolving diciplines, if in fact a pro/am kind of evolution
progresses. The
grassroots riders may not be appreciative of the kinds of
controls which
are needed to protect the equines in the speed intensive
events.

An example, even within AERC, is the repeated suggestion
that a minimum
number of vet checks and maximum loop lengths be established
(by rule) as
contrasted to the multi-day ethos of a single 1 hour hold
near the
mid-point of a 50 mile ride.

The one-size-fits-all approach to the governance of the
sport may need to
be resolved.
