The organisers of one or two 100 milers have even attempted to put the positions of the riders at different points on the route, up on a black board - it generated a lot of interest, just that little bit of info about the riders (I'm sure a bit of side-betting between grooms was done)

Years ago in the mid 80's Terre and I ran the Golden Ears ride in B.C. Stat boards were used at that ride - it made for a really interesting time for those in camp. At Rainbow, we have had radios for the past 3 years and that enabled us to have stat boards. Really great for those 'spectators' in base camp especially when you don't see the 50's or 100's for 30+ miles! I have always thought that venues with power and technology (not Rainbow!) could come up with a great "stat" board. And yes, side betting would be allowed!
