Thank you!!!  This is what I was missing!

So I'll just get rid of the old rice bran I have (it was cheap, and now
I know why) and not worry about balancing things.

You don't need to balance the calcium.  Excess calcium is fine
(within reason), excess phosphorus is not.  Phosphorus will attach
calcium, either excess from the food you feed, or it will leach it
out of the bones of the horse, which is why you need to balance
phosphorus with calcium.
