Re: [RC] Nutrena & Purina? - Karen Sullivan

I do have some commments here as have two hard keepers and have tried everything over the years.  Purina also makes a high-fat feed (Athlete), which runs over $25, and Nutrama makes a product called Empower, also high fat and very expensive.

So, I have tried mixes of soaked beet pulp, added oil, Strategy, Mature Horse, all in one grain, etc, with vitamins, etc.

Until lately, I have avoided the rice-bran fad, as it was very pricey way to feed fat.  However, now, I have found the most wonderful pelleted rice bran, that is 15% fat, and costs $5.70 a bag!  It is one more thing I add to the grain mix, ,the horses love it, and after feeding for two weeks, I can see a difference.  These pellets are made by a local feed mill in my area (Bar Ale), and their senior feed is cheaper and nicer then Equine Senior, and they make a mixed grain and pellet All in one my horses love also.

Frankly, I am not blown away-overwhelmed by the Purina feeds.

Subject: [RC] Nutrena & Purina?

I currently use Purina Strategy for 2 of my horses and Purina Senior for my 20 yr. old boy.

I am looking for feedback on Nutrena products. I need a product that will help me keep weight on my 20 yr. old. And product for my other two who do not need any calories. I give them a bit of feed, since they both are on daily medication (2xday) and they will not eat the powdered meds without grain. Thanks, Raven
