In California, the only time we needed a coggins was to go to an event in a state that required it, or if you came IN to California from another state. But those IN the state of California did not need to have a coggins. Some states require just those horses who compete. (some require a test when sold) Be sure to know YOUR state requirements, and those of the state you might travel to.
