[RC] Thoughts/comments on cart training? - Jon . Linderman

Curious for some input on pro's/con's of training my endurance horse some
w/a jog cart. We own a vast harness stable (1 horse!) so our full-time
trainer (aka my teenage son) and I have been doing some light jogging on a
grass course with my arab/saddlebred gelding. He is ground driven
extensively during the year and has no problem w/ a surcingle and lines.
As a NSH he was probably broken to drive in his previous life as a show
horse, since this is fairly common practice in some arab and saddlebred
barns. He trots pulling a typical race horse jog cart nicely on a loose
rein with a round collected frame and assuming Blue Herons, deer, or our
suicidal barn cats don't jump out of the creek he is not spooky w/a cart
either. Any thoughts on this being bad as a training tool? I am not
looking to train him on the track, but I do have a grass course at home to
get some work in on him as well as access to a rails to trails path behind
my place that I ride on when it snows. Any thoughts good or bad would are
welcome & thanks.

Happy Trail,

Jon
