Re: [RC] Shock Collar for Dogs - Ibiteraaarr

I've had great success using a shock collar on my dog. And I completely agree with what several other people have commented upon; it's a training tool that has potential to be severely abusive so it's something to keep in mind. My obediance trainer recommended the shock collar as a last resort when were getting poor results using several other training techniques. My Doberman would come back when I called him, but only when he was done sniffing a tree or whatever it was he was preoccupied with. It's a supplement to obediance training, not a replacement and it took only 3 good zaps for Ace to learn that when I called him, it was in his best interest to return to me immediatly. I only paid about $100 bucks for mine, and it was worth every penny. It's also a nice way to refine your distance commands and those are extremely important for a dog who's off-leash. Between obediance school, the collar's assistance and the AKC Canine Good Citizen's award, my dog's good behavior has allowed me to take him into places that don't allow pets like hotels. An obediant dog makes his company all that more enjoyable and will definatly keep him safer. Best of luck with your training!
