Re: [RC] Shock Collar for Dogs - Sisu West Ranch

I have used them for 30 years on hard headed field dogs.  Done properly they are a great training aid.

To use them successfully:

1. Put the dummy collar on every time the dog goes out for at least a month before using the shock collar.
2. Make sure the dog knows what you want.  You do not want to terrorize him.
3. Give the recall command, then if the dog doesn't come, zap him hard.  When he does come, he will probably be very scared.  Give him lots of love and praise etc.  It should only take two or three experiences for him to realize that it is the disobedience that causes the shock.
4. Keep the shock collar on him and the transmitter with you for at least 3 months after the last time you used it.
5. Like any training aid that causes discomfort, you must think carefully about your training program or you can cause more harm than good.
