I used the Tacky Tack pad under mine - only stopped using it as it was 
too long for my short backed Arab. I had the square western model. I 
liked everything else about it and used it on a tough, hilly ride (not 
endurance ride but an all day ride nonetheless). Had no troubles with 
the binding/edging FWIW.
