Re: [RC] [RC] [Guest] Adios/Metabolic failures@ PAC - Nancy Mitts

At some rides I feel fluids have been given by nasal tube with the feeling that it was less "invasive" or drastic than IV fluids. It also happens pretty quickly and unless you happen to be passing by at the time you'd never know it happened. I don't agree with this perception of safety, and hopefully now a lot of other people will re-think that also.
I have also seen horses that were given IV fluids BEFORE their problem came to be severe. I think that has been a growing trend at some rides. This isn't a "normal" occurance for our sport, but we shouldn't make people so reluctant to have their horse on fluids that they end up in serious trouble that could have been prevented. Monte says we also shouldn't tie them to the ridecamp whipping post & flog them for doing so.
