Re: [RC] Riding Cavalry - superpat

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Barbara. But isn't there a happy (sensible)
medium to be achieved reference crewing? What you describe sickens me as
well. I remember the heated discussions here on ride camp last year about
this very subject. And I think that is the reason so many of us have very
strong feelings about FEI and the direction it seems to be heading (or
dragged).

I have been stunned by scenes of vehicles driving along with the
competitors, spraying the horses with water and offering sustenance to the
riders. To me this is NOT endurance riding and I'm saddened to see FEI
rides disintegrate into such events.

Have endurance rides in 25, 50 and 100 miles -- but the horse and rider
are
a team. No pit crews. That's what I said, NO pit crews.

Bonnie, impose a "time window" with a scoring system based on condition
of
the horse rather than making it a race and you have a sport called
"competitive trail riding". One of the challenges of CTR is the rider
having
to do everything -- it's exhausting!

You did cause some neurons to connect for me, however...

I would love to see FEI and international competitions conducted purely
as
cavalry events. How fast would that get rid of the "jockeys"? >g<
