[RC] Recovery times - terre

" Is it just me or is anyone else noticing how long it is taking some of
these horses to meet criteria? I will be the first to say... if *MY* horse
took 15 minutes to come down... We'd pack it in and keep it for another day.
Maybe I just go OVERBOARD with worry sometimes.... but geeze."

This may very well not be what it looks like.
Crewing at PAC last weekend: if they ever post the stats you will see what look like some long times there, too. In fact, what was happening is that riders/crews were feeding the horses long after their pulses came down, because the vets were being ruthless about gut sounds. So what we are calling "recovery time" is, accurately, the time between the horse entering the check and being presented for pulse, not necessarily the time it took to recover. Remember, FEI protocols require that you go directly from pulse to vet, so if you are worried about gut sounds you need to address that 'on the trail'--even if you are in the check.

terre (stats--it is all in the interpretation...)
