[RC] finding a farrier - Scott Johnson

Looking for opinions on this matter: If a farrier is certified (as noted by a listing of farriers from the American Farriers Association), what exactly does that mean? If YOU were searching for a new farrier, how important would it be to you for a prospective farrier to be certified? Is word of mouth better? I'm possibly looking for a new one, and I live in a fairly rural area, so there doesn't seem to be too many around (none in the yellow pages). Also, what might be some pertinent questions to ask? Thanks for any help.....Maggie??
