Re: [RC] calling the law - Nancy Mitts

I'm not sure I would trust a "local law officer" to be able to tell which horses were criminally overstressed at an endurance ride, and which were not. They might just conclude that any horse they've been told just ran a 25 or 50 mile race was abused. (We can call it a ride, but to the general public, a timed event is a race.) Say there's another horse on an IV, also. How would you explain, "Oh, that one's okay, the rider voluntarily quit and is concerned about their horse. Only charge the one who has an uncaring attitude." Frankly, I don't think a lot of people not in tune with the sport would appreciate the difference.

I can tell you that knowing what I know now, if this happened at a ride I was at, I would be very tempted to call a law officer and have the person charged with cruelty to animals...... Anyone think of that? Laura Hayes AERC#2741

I think that is the smartest think I have ever read on RC. Having to possibly go to court, have a lien placed on your house for fines and spending money on a lawyer can be a much better education than a slap on the wrist from some organization. Don't be tempted, just do it.
