Forwarding this for a friend who's trying to figure out what's going on with

Back in the fall My horse had swollen glands and a cold brought back by one
that we took to a show. Anyway before starting him on antibiotics, to rule
out strangles, we pulled blood and it came back that he was anemic. The vet
said probably because he was sick it was low. We treated him with antibiotic
and he was fine. I started him this spring conditioning for a week long ride
and when the vet came out to do shots I asked him to pull his blood again to
check for the anemia. Came back fine BUT for some strange reason the lab
decided to run a fibrinogen level on him. It was 800 and normal should be
250. The vet told me that could indicate a serious infection and I shouldn't
take him on any long rides since his immune system was working over time. So
needless to say I haven't been on this horses back since than. 2 weeks later
we pulled blood again and it was down to 500 still high but at least coming
down. At the time of the first blood test he was getting over a pretty bad
case of scratches. The vet wasn't sure the scratches had a bearing on the
blood work. everything including the anemia came back great except the
fibrinogen level. Had it pulled again and it is fine now and he said to put
him back in training. BUT he is slightly anemic again. He said not to worry
it was only down from normal being 32 his was 29. HE also told me that when
we worm the worms start coming back in 5 weeks so that may be the reason his
anmemia is fluctuating. But it only fluctuates a few points. What are your
thoughts on this, guys????
