I learned the hard way a while ago why you shouldn't roundpen a horse in the
metal pipe corrals with a western saddle on. I had tacked a mare I was
training at the time up and took her into the roundpen since she hadn't been
ridden in a few weeks. She got the horn caught in the metal pipe and pulled
the saddle under her belly. It took her about fifteen minutes of panicing to
climb the roundpen where she finally tore the saddle off and stopped. She
was pretty much unharmed, the saddle was another story. I cringe to think
what would have happend if she'd had a breastcollar in that situation.

I do ride my current horse every ride with a breastcollar, just because I
never know where I'm heading when I leave the barn. Turn left and we go
through hills galore, turn right and it's flat! With Star's shape, she's
wasp waisted and round barrelled the saddle heads for her tail more often
than not.
