[RC] Swanton 100 and Remington - Judy HouleI just came back from the Swanton 100, my eighth finish on that ride, and probably because I only had about six good training rides on my horse Felex, we took the entire 24 hours to finish! Two years ago I top tenned it! Did the trail seem any harder to anyone else this year? There was more gravel. I did do a lot of walking. I rode with Joan Zeleny on her Morgan stallion, and Ted Goppert, who was my shoer for years until I decided to do the barefoot thing. I did the whole ride with Easyboots, and they worked fine. Towards the end, John Parke and his Icelandic Pony Remington caught up with us, and apparently was familiar with Joan's stallion. They had had a little exchange of words at the 2001 XP, and neither horse had forgotten it. They were trotting along together in front of me in the dark when Remington suddenly flipped off the stallion or something in horse body language, and he got furious and said a few words back until Joan told him to shut up. I was very impressed with the nerve of that little pony. They must be like terriers. He sure is a goer. We all four of us squeeked in at the stroke of 5:30. Nothing like being out for 24 hours!
