Re: [RC] Problem Child - Kristene Smuts

Am I the only one with a problem child? .......... At
this rate though, I'd be lucky to enter him in an LD.
So far this year I've had him all conditioned and
ready for his first event, twice. Both times he comes
up lame.>>

Hi Tim

I was very happy to read about your post!!!! <ducking the flying objects>
Seriously, for 2 years I've had untold "unluck" with Ibn - the first year I got
him we had some mental issues and only in the 2nd year could I enter him in
LDs. Last year I wanted to move up to 60s and 80s (km) but also had a "strange
lameness" right in the middle of the season - same symptoms as you describe.
It turned out that it was a bruise in the coronary band that nobody could see
until it started moving down the wall 3 weeks after my decision to rest him
totally for at least 6 weeks. Because he was new to the sport and I wanted to
take it easy with him, I did another one or two LDs and then the season was
finished.

This year, I was all gung-ho and planned to DEFINITELY move up to 80s and
hopefully qualify for our Nationals. I did one 60 then went riding with a
friend after which I put Ibn in the paddock before going home - he caught his
leg in some wire and cut his fetlock right down to almost bone - could see the
sinews etc! Off for another 6 weeks or so. Start at the beginning again.

After our season ended, I rested both horses for a few weeks, then winter
arrived and Ibn started coughing. Eric had the disunited problem so the result
was that I haven't ridden for a good few months!

Sooooo, as consolation, there is at least ONE other person who thinks that
getting a gold fish instead will be a better plan ;-))

Smiles
Kristene
