[RC] arena walking...conditioning? - Sundaez

Hi all...

I'm still putting LSD on my Morgan mare. I'm getting her ready for her second
LD in Oct.

This mare is on one acre turnout 24/7. I also have a small (60 x 100) arena I
turn her out in daily. She walks the arena the entire time for at least three
hours. She's worn a path even. I don't know why she does this...she's not a
herd bound horse...and she doesn't get frantic or call to my other horses...she
just walks constantly. I figure this is a good way to give her exercise on
days I don't ride. I'm still taking it slow with her. Do you think this walking
is doing anything for conditioning...I know it isn't a substation for riding
but am wondering if it's doing any good. She walks 4 mph so I figure she's
walking 8-12 miles a day without a rider. I was thinking of tacking her up and
putting a gps on her but then I figured she'd probably roll....then I thought
I'm probably getting way too anal about this and need to relax.

So email me with your thoughts....I love reading your emails!
Mel
