[RC] ultra stirrup (trail tech/easy rider) - Kelly Lane

Today I received my new Ultra stirrups. They are the combination of the Trail Tech III with the shock absorber top and the bottom of the EZ Ride stirrups. Took them on a short easy ride and was a little nonplussed. Perhaps they bear getting used to, but they made my ankles ache and I didn't feel quite right in them, like my toes kept wanting to point down. The top of the stirrup had moments when it was rubbing me.When trotting ,frequently I ride in two point and also sometimes post a bit off my stirrups but the action of these didn't give the support I'm used to from my Sprenger 4F stirrups. It felt very loosey goosey. It  felt that if my horse spooked quickly to the side and my weight shifted it would really push down and stretch out one of the stirrups, adding to my inbalance.

Has anyone out there ridden in these or the Trail Techs? Is it just a matter of adjustment or could I be doing something wrong? They have a 30 day money back guarantee and I want to make sure I give them a fair shake. I love my Sprenger stirrups but on long rides my feet go partially numb and I wanted to try the wider based stirrups to alleviate this.

On a good note, I also rode my mare in her new Cashel Crusader riding fly mask. It is very buggy where we are and the biting flies usually swarm her head making her crazy. Today she was blissfully happy and no bugs swarming her head! She looks like a complete freak in it-it is the long version w/ears-but since it works gotta forget how funny it looks.

Thanks,
Kel
