Re: [RC] [RC] Let's just give everyone an award.... - Laurie Durgin

How about the "Restrain Yourself" award, for the amount of times you tell yourself,"I am not going to say anything,I am not going to say anything; I will not put my foot in my mouth; I will not make stupid generalizations; I will not 'take it personally"; I will go out and ride instead (assuming it is not raining, you are not recovering from a ride injury, your horse is not lame, sick, or rehabing or( In my case today you didn't have to run 3 children 6 different places and go shopping for 5 hours).(And I am going to bribe my son to feed the horses, cause I have to take another child home', Ice cream should do the trick.:} Wish I was blazing down the trail--- in my dreams .(I will get up early tomorrow and ride two though!!! Is it just me that feels this way?..Let's just give everyone an award for being a member of AERC or for ever riding a horse or whatever, and then the rest of us can go do endurance rides because we LOVE it, not because we need recognition at a ceremony (locally, regionally or nationally). Just the fact that I complete a ride on a horse I love, on a trail I love, with people I love, means more to me than any award I've ever received. Do I treasure my seven Big Horn 100 buckles? Yes. But if they held the ride next year and didn't give me anything but a pat on the back as I crossed the finish line, I'd be there. Do I count my miles and add up my points on the years I'm lucky enough to be in the standings? Of course! But it has NOTHING to do with WHY I do endurance riding. I'm just not relating very well to all of this stuff this week. Maybe the heat and marking, then pulling, 100 miles of trail has damaged my brain even further?! Cindy
