[RC] martingales - Larry Miller

I use a training martingale. I used it on Maggie cause she flips her head
and I got tired of both reins being on the same side. I use it on Bay cause
I would wear his face on my face if I didn't. He knows when it is on and
when it isn't. I used it on the young horse to help prevent him from
leaning on his bit. All of these horses wore a training martingale. I
prefer it to the regular one. I don't use it if I don't have to. The young
horse no longer has one since I switched to a bitless bridle. I quit with
Maggie cause I got adept at getting her reins back on both sides. I also
use a bitless bridle on her in competition. I just don't use it now in the
winter since she is 'full' of it!! Bay needs a bit ALL the time and I
continue to use the training martingale on him. I believe that I have used
one with a hackamore too., No problem. Introduce it gradually and the
horse should adopt. There are no set rules, whatever works for you and your
horse is what you do. Jeanie
