Not dumb questions at all! A Nat'l Championship ride should be of the same caliber as the Western States, OD or any of the other hard ones. That's what makes these rides the ones you dream of doing and hopefully work all the harder to achieve.
Returning to this after 13 years, the trend to make rides easier or more comfortable alarms me. I agree they should be as safe for horse and rider as is possible but not less difficult. The challenge is what brought most of us here to start with.

Maybe this is a dumb question but...why do we need to decrease the
difficulty level?  Is it a certainty that the difficulty level caused the
low completion rate?  I guess I just figure a championship ride should be
tough.  Tough but doable.  If we take out the heat factor for October and
add more water stops as they have planned to do, won't that help with the
completion rate?  Just asking questions and wondering what others think.
What DO people want in a championship trail?
