Re: [RC] modifying stirrup leathers on BM Sport Saddle (BMSS) - Dolores Arste

I use webbers on my Sports saddle. I cut the stitching on the Webbers and then cut them to the right length (hint, I used child size length to start). Then I drilled two holes in the spot where they need to be attached to the stationary stirrup ring. I used Chicago screws to hold them in place. Once I was happy with the length I put automotive "sleeve retainer" in the screws and screwed them on. They have held up this way for 3 years. You can also use "lock tight". Caution, don't use either until you are sure you have them right as you will not be able to remove them once set.

Recently the Webbers have begun to show wear so I thru a few stitches in with an awl. But, if they get too worn, just replace them.

Do not do  this with leather, the screw will cut into the leather. I also replaced the girthing system with Beta biothane straps (I cut biothane stirrup leathers fairly heave stuff) so I could use an English girth (less bulk easier loosening and tightening). I also attached these with the screws and sleeve retainer.

I bought a nice girthing system made of leather from someone (I could look it up) but I haven't been able to put it on because I can't get the biothane ones off ;)
