Re: [RC] [RC] my horse is eating dirt... - Susan Garlinghouse, DVM

...

The injured mare I handwalked for 5 months, used to stop and eat/lick a
patch of dirt/algea in a moist spot. This horse had the best of
everything,
all the suppliments in the world, and treats, go figure.

A lot of horses will just do that, and it very often has nothing to do with
a mineral deficiency---it's just something that appeals to him. I keep
trying to convince my husband that if I have a craving for Thai food, it's
because I have a lemongrass or coconut deficiency requiring immediate
attention.<g> Nah, I just like Thai food. :-)))))))
