I think I'd rather the horse get out of the ant bed!  (Especially if he
didn't run away and hurt anything).  
I know I wouldn't (couldn't) stand still in one too long!!!

I guess that's the sort of example that would cause me to say that
it's NOT a good thing.  Horse was not in trouble, and it wouldn't
have hurt him to stay tied--but had he not stuck around of his own
volition, he could have gotten into harm's way.  Again, JMO.  :-)
